DISCOVER PHILOSOPHY
These sessions offer an exciting opportunity for all students fascinated by philosophy to dive deeper into the subject! Students will explore philosophy as a vibrant academic discipline, discovering not just what it studies, but how and why we study it.
Do you know that you're not living in a computer simulation?
Philosophy has long been concerned with questions of knowledge and reality: how do we know that the things that we experience through our senses reflect the way that the world is? How can we be certain that any of the things that we believe and consider ourselves to know are in fact true? With be rise of increasingly sophisticated technology, these problems have become part of a wider cultural conversation. If we were living in a computer simulation, could we tell the difference? What implications are there, if we can't tell the difference?
Existentialist Comics: The Art of Ethics
If you've heard of Existentialism, you probably know of its reputation as a philosophy of chain-smoking, polo-neck wearing, coffee-drinking introspection in the wake of two World Wars. This is not a look that you'd think would age well. And yet, this weirdly enduring school of thought has popped up time and again across art and culture. In this session, you'll take on the medium of comics and find out how philosophy can be used for serious fun.
Interspecies Thriving: Living in a More-Than-Human World
This session will examine ecological relationships, ethical frameworks, and innovative approaches to coexistence. It will encourage a reimagining of human roles within ecosystems, promoting sustainable and compassionate living.
